How Active Termite Treatments Work
Modern termite treatments are designed to do much more than kill individual termites.
Many of today’s leading termite management products utilise what is known as the Transfer Effect.
When foraging termites come into contact with the treatment, they unknowingly carry tiny amounts of the active ingredient back through the colony. Through normal termite behaviour such as grooming, feeding and contact with other termites, the treatment is transferred throughout the population.
This slow-acting process allows the treatment to spread deeper into the colony, increasing the likelihood of eliminating the source of the infestation rather than simply the termites that are visible at the treatment site.
This approach is one of the reasons modern termite treatments are significantly more effective than traditional “spray and pray” methods.

The Life & Habits Of Termites

Workers
Workers are responsible for gathering food, constructing tunnels and maintaining the colony. These are the termites most commonly responsible for structural damage.
Soldiers
Soldier termites protect the colony from predators and threats.
Reproductives (Alates)
Winged reproductive termites, often called flying termites or swarmers, leave mature colonies to establish new nests and expand termite populations throughout the surrounding area.
The Queen
The queen’s role is reproduction and colony growth. In established colonies, queens can live for many years and produce thousands of eggs per day .
Because termites continuously forage for food and moisture, colonies may travel considerable distances underground in search of suitable timber and building materials.
