YOUR LOCAL WOOLOOWIN PEST CONTROL TEAM
Pest control shaped around a narrow suburb with a railway through the middle of it
Wooloowin sits about six kilometres north of the Brisbane CBD in the Brisbane City Council area, bordered by Kedron, Kalinga, Lutwyche, Clayfield and Albion, with Lutwyche Road running down its western edge and the North Coast railway line cutting through it at Wooloowin station. It is a small suburb, close to 1.1 square kilometres, and most of its houses are interwar Queenslanders built on generous allotments, with Wooloowin State School on Lutwyche Road and Kedron State High School on Park Road both inside the suburb.
This page covers our residential pest control and termite work in Wooloowin. National Pest Solutions is a South East Queensland business, so the same team also works through Brisbane’s inner north, the City of Moreton Bay, Redlands, Logan and the Sunshine Coast.
Two things about Wooloowin change how we work here. The first is the shape of the place: a long, narrow suburb with a rail corridor through the centre and a busy arterial down one side, so a lot of properties have a boundary that backs onto land nobody lives on. Pests move along those edges, and the fence line at the back of a block is often the busiest part of the job. The second is the split in housing. At the 2021 Census, 46.1% of occupied private dwellings in Wooloowin were separate houses and 48.0% were flats or apartments, so an old timber home and a brick unit block can sit on the same street and need completely different treatment and access planning.

MYTH BUSTER
Does living beside the railway line cause pest problems?
Not automatically. A rail corridor is not a pest source on its own. What attracts pests is conditions, and corridor fences just happen to be where a few of those conditions gather:
- Dense or unmanaged vegetation touching a fence line or roof, giving rodents and ants a direct path in
- Stored timber, pavers, green waste or building material sitting against a boundary
- Blocked gutters, leaking taps and poorly drained low spots holding moisture near the structure
- Bins, pet food and bird feed left accessible near the back of a property
- Gaps under doors, unscreened vents and lifted roof sheeting on older homes
- Subfloor areas closed in over the years with no cross flow of air left
Plenty of Wooloowin homes back onto the corridor and never have an issue. We assess the individual property rather than assuming a problem from its address.
WHAT WE TREAT IN WOOLOOWIN
General pest control, termite management and commercial work
Wooloowin needs all three of our service streams: family homes, a large share of units with body corporate arrangements, and a working strip of shops, offices and schools along Lutwyche Road and Kedron Park Road. The detail of each service lives on the site-wide service page, linked from each card below.

General pest control in Wooloowin
Interwar Queenslanders are high set, timber framed and full of the cavities pests like: subfloors, wall voids, tongue and groove joints and a roof space that has usually been reworked more than once. Unit blocks are a different job again, where shared bin areas, service ducts and common walls mean one unit’s problem is rarely just one unit’s problem. We treat the building we are standing in, not a template.
Local fact: Most of the houses in Wooloowin are interwar Queenslanders built on large allotments (Queensland Places, University of Queensland).

Termite inspections and management in Wooloowin
Timber framed homes of this era give subterranean termites plenty to work with, and decades of renovation, deck building and enclosing underneath change where the risk points sit. Our inspections work through the subfloor, roof void, interior, exterior and the fence lines and garden structures around the yard, because on small inner north blocks the first activity is often found in a retaining wall or an old stump rather than the house.
Local fact: Wooloowin’s stormwater has historically drained north through the Kalinga system toward Kedron Brook, with a heritage listed culvert at Melrose Park in neighbouring Kalinga part of that network (Brisbane City Council Heritage Register).

Commercial and food safe pest control in Wooloowin
Lutwyche Road carries shops, offices, food businesses and two schools through this part of the inner north, and every one of them has a different standard to meet. We work with food safe methods and documentation so a kitchen, cafe, office or school site can show what has been done and when.
Local fact: Wooloowin State School at 663 Lutwyche Road and Kedron State High School at 34 Park Road both sit inside the suburb (Queensland Department of Education).
COMMON WOOLOOWIN PESTS WE TREAT

Ants
Coastal brown and black house ants track along slab edges, driveway joints and paths, then find the kitchen. We treat the trails and the nesting areas outside, not just the ants you can see indoors.

Cockroaches
German cockroaches ride in with cartons and groceries and settle in warm kitchen voids, while larger species come in from drains, garden beds and bin areas after dark. Treatment targets harbourage, not open surfaces.

Rats & Mice
Rats and mice move in from drainage lines, dense vegetation and commercial bin areas, then use roof spaces and wall cavities. Older brick homes that have settled often have a gap at the eaves or roller door big enough to matter.

Spiders
Webbing spiders take over eaves, patios and pergolas on low set brick homes, and ground dwellers favour retaining walls, rockeries and mulched beds. We treat exteriors and clear webbing so it is obvious what has been done.

Silverfish
Treatment for silverfish activity in cupboards, storage spaces and other protected areas.

Fleas and other household pests
Treatment options for a wide variety of crawling, scurrying and flying pests.
Why Corridor Edges And Old Timber Matter Here
Built for boundary line pressure and interwar timber construction
Wooloowin is small and hemmed in. The North Coast rail line, open since the 1880s, runs through it, Lutwyche Road runs down one side, and the land falls away north toward the Kedron Brook system through Kalinga. That combination gives you long stretches of boundary that are not domestic yard, a lot of shaded, damp back corners, and housing stock that is mostly timber framed and old enough to have been altered several times. Termites and rodents both take advantage of exactly those conditions, so we plan a job around edges, moisture and access rather than treating the inside of the house in isolation.
Because of that, on a Wooloowin property we:
Local fact: Greville Park at 20 Chalk Street is the park inside Wooloowin itself, at roughly 4,000 square metres, so most of the suburb’s green edge is street trees, private gardens and the rail corridor rather than large reserve (Brisbane City Council park locations open data).
Honest caveat: How often a property needs attention depends on the building, its construction, its condition and what is happening around it. We assess that on site and tell you plainly, rather than putting a number on it before we have looked.
THE PRACTICAL SIDE
Working around Wooloowin
A narrow suburb with an arterial road, a rail line and a high share of units has its own practicalities. We work around them rather than asking you to.
Local fact: At the 2021 Census, 48.0% of occupied private dwellings in Wooloowin were flats or apartments and 5.1% were semi detached, row, terrace or townhouses (Australian Bureau of Statistics, 2021 Census).

TERMITE INSPECTIONS WOOLOOWIN
An old house that has never had termites is not a house that cannot get them.
Wooloowin’s separate houses are mostly interwar timber, and many have been extended, re-stumped, decked or closed in underneath at some point. Every one of those changes creates a new junction, and junctions are where concealed termite activity tends to start.
Our residential termite inspections currently incorporate traditional sounding, thermal imaging, moisture testing and a full written report, so you get a record of what was checked and what was found, not just a verbal all clear. We inspect the subfloor, roof void, interior, exterior, fences, garden beds and timber structures in the yard.
WOOLOOWIN TERMITE TREATMENTS
Where activity is found, the plan is built around the construction of that property.
If you find live termites, do not spray them and do not disturb the workings. Disturbed termites move, and a colony that has scattered is harder to treat. Cover it back up, leave it alone and call us on 1300 356 691.

OUTDOOR LIVING IN WOOLOOWIN
Keeping the outdoor half of your Wooloowin property liveable
Wooloowin lives outdoors. Greville Park on Chalk Street, the deep verandahs on the older homes and the small courtyards behind the unit blocks all get used year round, and all three attract the nuisance pests that come with shade, moisture and food.
Mosquitoes breed in anything holding water, from a pot plant saucer to a blocked gutter or an unused pond. Flies and ants find their way to outdoor kitchens quickly. Lawn grubs and armyworm turn up in the larger interwar backyards, usually after warm, wet weather. We can treat the outdoor areas as part of a general service so the yard is usable, not just the house.
RODENT CONTROL WOOLOOWIN
Rodents do well in suburbs like this one. There is continuous cover along corridor and fence lines, roof spaces in older homes with gaps at the eaves, and shared bin and service areas in unit blocks.
Signs worth acting on:
We work out how they are getting in first, then treat, then talk through proofing so it does not simply repeat next season.

COMMERCIAL PEST CONTROL WOOLOOWIN
The Lutwyche Road frontage and the older Kedron Park Road shopping area carry the suburb’s commercial activity, alongside Wooloowin State School and Kedron State High School. Those sites need pest management that stands up to inspection.
We look after:
Commercial programs include scheduled service, documented reporting, food safe methods and rodent monitoring where it is needed. National Pest Solutions is CM3 certified and Queensland Health accredited.

Wooloowin pest control FAQs
Questions from Wooloowin homeowners
My House Backs Onto The Railway Line. Is That A Termite Risk?
Not by itself. What matters is what sits against your boundary: timber sleepers, stored materials, dense vegetation and damp, shaded ground are the things that make a fence line attractive. We check those edges first on corridor properties and tell you what is worth changing.
