A suburb built by the war effort

Salisbury sits 13 kilometres south of the CBD in Moorooka Ward, covering 4.6 square kilometres with 6,790 residents, bordered by Moorooka, Tarragindi, Nathan, Rocklea and Coopers Plains, and extending toward Toohey Forest Park. It is overwhelmingly detached housing: 2,161 separate houses at 89.1%, with 200 townhouses and only 56 flats.

Its shape comes from the Second World War. In 1941 Salisbury was far enough out of town for a munitions works to be sited in Evans Road, and the tram was extended from Moorooka to serve it. You can still read that history in the street names, Assembly, Bearing and Lathe among them, and in the war workers’ housing estate built nearby. After the war the munitions building became part of the Salisbury Industrial Estate.

That leaves a distinctive combination for us: modest family homes from the 1940s and 50s, an industrial estate on the doorstep, and households with young children living in houses built for war workers eighty years ago.

WHAT WE TREAT IN SALISBURY

Cockroaches and general pests, rodents, and termite management

The full detail of each service lives on our site wide service pages, linked under each card.

Pest Control Salisbury

Cockroach and general pest control in Salisbury

Cockroaches are the everyday work in this housing stock, and they are more than a nuisance. Species that live alongside people in kitchens can carry disease organisms including Salmonella, and cockroach proteins are a recognised allergy and asthma trigger for susceptible children.

Local fact: Queensland Children’s Hospital advice on reducing allergens in the home lists cockroaches alongside dust mites and mould, and recommends an annual professional treatment as the best approach to keeping a home cockroach free, with particular attention to the child’s bedroom ([Children’s Health Queensland, reducing allergens in the home](https://www.childrens.health.qld.gov.au/health-a-to-z/allergy/reducing-allergens-in-the-home)).

If someone in the house has asthma or allergies, that reframes the job. It is not about the one you saw last night, it is about the population living in the wall voids, under the kitchen cabinetry and behind the fridge motor. That is a treatment plan, not a can of spray.

Rodent control in Salisbury

Salisbury has the Salisbury Industrial Estate within it and Rocklea’s warehousing and produce markets immediately west. Commercial and industrial land generates rodent pressure that spreads into the surrounding residential streets, and the older housing stock offers plenty of entry points at the stumps, vents, roofline and service penetrations.

Rocky Water Holes Creek runs westward through the suburb from its headwaters in Toohey Forest, which adds a green corridor to the mix.

Termite inspections in Salisbury

Houses from the 1940s and 50s were built well before termite management systems were a construction requirement, and the war-era stock in particular was built quickly, economically and with a lot of timber. Eighty years of sheds, carports, fences, retaining walls and garden beds have been added since.

There is usually no installed system to check and no durable notice to read, which means the annual inspection is not a supplement to your protection, it is the whole of it.

Commercial and food safe pest control in Salisbury

The Salisbury Industrial Estate holds manufacturing, trade, warehousing and food businesses, and food handling premises need a documented program with records that stand up to audit rather than an occasional spray. We are HACCP certified through Compass Assurance and we service the industrial estates through Salisbury, Rocklea, Archerfield and Coopers Plains.

WAR-ERA HOMES, INDUSTRIAL NEIGHBOURS

Built for 1940s and 50s houses beside an industrial estate

Cockroaches are a health issue here. Older kitchens, timber floors and long-established populations, in homes with kids. Worth treating properly rather than repeatedly spraying.
Industrial pressure travels. Rodent activity from estates and warehousing reaches the residential streets nearby, especially in cooler months.
No original termite system. War-era and postwar homes generally have nothing installed, so annual inspection is the protection.
Everything was added later. Sheds, carports, fences and retaining walls from every decade since, most in soil contact.
A creek through the middle. Rocky Water Holes Creek adds a green corridor for rodents to move along.

Honest caveat: A single cockroach treatment in a heavily infested older home will knock numbers down but rarely finishes the job. We would rather tell you up front that it may take a follow-up than take the money and have you disappointed in three weeks.

THE PRACTICAL SIDE

Working around Salisbury

Tell us at booking if anyone in the house has asthma or allergies. It changes product selection, placement and the advice we give you.
For cockroach work, empty the under-sink cupboard and the cabinets either side of the stove and fridge before we arrive. Access to those voids is most of the result.
Clear perimeter access and unlock the subfloor if the house is on stumps.
If you back onto the industrial estate or the creek, mention it, because the proofing recommendations change.
Products are applied by trained technicians per label and QLD Health requirements. Tell us about children, pets, fish tanks and beehives at booking.

Local fact: Salisbury was originally known as Rocklea East, and took its present name when the railway station opened on the South Coast line in 1885, after a Rocklea property owned by journalist and historian William Coote. The munitions works arrived in Evans Road in 1941 because the area was still considered out of town, production of small arms ammunition ceased there in September 1943, and the building was taken over by the Department of Aircraft Production to overhaul aircraft engines before becoming part of the industrial estate after the war.

SALISBURY PEST CONTROL FAQS

Questions from Salisbury homeowners

  • Why Do The Cockroaches Keep Coming Back After We Spray?

Because supermarket sprays kill what you can see and leave the population in the voids untouched, and in some cases scatter them further through the house. Professional treatment targets the harbourage: under and behind cabinetry, in wall voids, around motors and warm appliances, and it uses products the population takes back with them.
