YOUR LOCAL ROCKLEA PEST CONTROL TEAM
Brisbane’s food distribution hub
Rocklea is unlike anywhere else we service. It covers 9.3 square kilometres in Moorooka Ward, 11.1 kilometres south-south-west of the CBD, bordered on the west by Oxley Creek, and it holds only 1,672 residents. That is not a mistake. Most of Rocklea is industrial land, and the residential pocket is a small remnant of what was once a dairying and farming district.
At the centre of it sits the Brisbane Markets on Sherwood Road: Queensland’s only central fruit and vegetable market, on a 77 hectare site with more than 40 buildings and over 150 businesses, moving in excess of 700 million kilograms of produce a year worth more than two billion dollars. Add the surrounding warehousing, cold storage, transport and light industry and you have the densest concentration of food handling and storage in South East Queensland.
That changes what pest control Rocklea means here. In most suburbs we write about houses. In Rocklea, the main game is documented commercial programs, so that is what this page leads with.

WHAT WE TREAT: PEST CONTROL ROCKLEA
Commercial programs, food premises, warehousing and homes
The full detail of each service lives on our site wide service pages, linked under each card.

Food safe and commercial pest management in Rocklea
For a food business, pest control is not a service you call when you see something. It is a program that supports your food safety program and stands up to audit.
Industry best practice for pest management in the food industry treats the site by zones, from production and process areas through to warehouse and storage including incoming and finished goods, and covers rodent control, crawling insects, flying insects, stored product pests and bird control as separate documented procedures, with standard operating procedures and records behind each one.
That is how we build a Rocklea program: zoned, documented, with a management plan covering the legislative requirements, service records, trend reporting and corrective actions you can put in front of an auditor. We are HACCP certified through Compass Assurance.
Local fact: Depending on the activity, a Queensland food business may need both a local council food business licence and accreditation with Safe Food Production Queensland under the Food Production (Safety) Act 2000, supported by a documented food safety plan or management statement ([Safe Food Production Queensland](https://www.safefood.qld.gov.au/food-business/apply-for-accreditation/)). Your pest management program has to sit underneath that, not beside it.

Warehouse and stored product pest control Rocklea
Warehousing has its own pest profile. Stored product pests arrive in incoming goods rather than walking in the door, so inspection of inbound pallets matters as much as anything you do to the building. Rodents come through the obvious weak points: loading docks left open, damaged roller door seals, gaps at the base of doors, service penetrations and roof voids.
Birds are the one most sites underestimate. Roosting inside a high roof void over a storage area is a contamination issue, not just a mess issue, and it needs proofing rather than repeat cleaning.

Rodent control in Rocklea
Every element that concentrates rodents is here at once: food volume, transport movement, waste handling, Oxley Creek along the western boundary, and low-lying flood-prone ground that pushes them out of drainage after rain. Neighbouring sites matter too, since a well proofed building next to a poorly managed one still gets pressure at the boundary.
Proofing plus external stations plus documented monitoring is the combination that holds. Bait alone in an environment like Rocklea is not a control strategy.

Residential pest control in Rocklea
The homes here are mostly separate houses, 551 of them at 86.2% of dwellings, on low-lying land near the creek. Flood-prone ground, older housing and an industrial neighbourhood mean rodents, cockroaches and ants are the everyday work, alongside termite inspections for houses that mostly predate modern termite management requirements.
AN INDUSTRIAL AND FOOD HANDLING SUBURB
Built for warehouses, food premises and flood-prone ground
Honest caveat: On a site of any size we would rather quote a program with proofing works than a cheap recurring spray. If a competitor is quoting substantially less, check whether their scope includes zoned monitoring, documented records and corrective actions, because that is what an audit will ask for.
THE PRACTICAL SIDE
Working around Rocklea
Inner-north density means parking, access and approvals take a bit more planning. A few practical notes.
Local fact: Rocklea was named after the Rocky Water Holes, a watercourse rising in Toohey Forest and running into Oxley Creek. The name was formally adopted for the railway station in 1884, softened with “lea”, the old English word for a meadow or piece of arable land. Regular flooding up the Oxley Creek watershed laid down surface loam and made it good farming country, which is exactly why it became a dairying district, and it is the same low-lying ground that shapes the pest pressure now. The Central Market moved out from the congested city to Rocklea in 1964, starting with five buildings on 14 hectares.

What does a compliant commercial program actually include?
Who Pays For Pest Control In My Apartment, Me Or The Body Corporate?
A site plan with numbered devices, zoned coverage across production, storage and external areas, documented procedures for rodents, crawling insects, flying insects, stored product pests and birds as relevant, service records for every visit, trend reporting over time, and corrective actions when something is found.
