YOUR LOCAL MOUNT CROSBY PEST CONTROL TEAM
Older timber, big blocks and a river boundary all change how pests get in
Mount Crosby sits in western Brisbane, wrapped by the Brisbane River on its southern and south-western sides, with Anstead to the east, Karana Downs to the south, Karalee to the south-east and Kholo to the north and west. Mount Crosby Road runs the length of it, and the locality is a genuine semi-rural one: at the 2021 Census every occupied private dwelling here was a separate house, with no townhouses, no flats and no strata schemes recorded at all. Around the pumping station you also get something unusual for Brisbane, a tight cluster of 1890s waterworks workers’ cottages in Brady Court, Scriven Street and Stumers Road that are entered in the Queensland Heritage Register.
This page covers our general pest control and our termite inspection and management work across Mount Crosby. We are a family owned South East Queensland business, so the same team also services Anstead, Karana Downs, Chuwar and the rest of western Brisbane, along with the wider Brisbane, Moreton Bay, Redlands, Logan and Sunshine Coast regions.
Why that mix matters is simple. A 130-year-old cottage with original timber, an open subfloor and decades of alterations gives termites a lot of quiet, undisturbed timber to work with, and it needs a slower, more careful inspection than a modern slab home. Then a hundred metres away you have a much newer house on a large bushland block near Platypus Park or Banksia Drive Reserve, where the pressure comes from outside: leaf litter, retained timber, stacked firewood, garden beds pushed up against the wall and a bush edge that keeps replacing whatever we treat. Two different jobs, one street.

MYTH BUSTER
Does an older heritage timber home automatically mean termites?
Not automatically. Age on its own does not decide it. Plenty of the old cottages here have been looked after well, and plenty of newer homes on big blocks have problems. What actually raises the risk on a property is conditions, and those we can look at and change:
- Timber in ground contact: steps, posts, garden edging, old stumps and offcuts left under the house
- Poor subfloor ventilation or a subfloor packed with stored timber and boxes
- Moisture that never dries out, from a leaking tap, a slow shower leak, an air conditioner drain or a downpipe emptying beside the footings
- Garden beds, mulch and paving built up over the top of what should be an inspectable edge
- Firewood stacks, sleepers and landscaping timbers against the house wall, common on acreage blocks
- Dense vegetation or a bush boundary touching the roofline or the walls, bridging straight past the ground
So we assess the individual property rather than the label on it. An 1890s cottage that is dry, ventilated and clear underneath can sit in better shape than a five-year-old home with mulch over the slab edge.
PEST CONTROL IN MOUNT CROSBY: What We Treat
General pest control and termite management

General pest control in Mount Crosby
On semi-rural blocks the pest pressure is mostly an outside-in story. Ants, spiders, cockroaches and the odd invasion of nuisance pests come in off the vegetated edges along the river and out of the reserves scattered through the locality, then find the gaps around older timber joinery, tank stands and unsealed subfloors. We treat the perimeter and the entry points, not just the room you saw them in.
Local fact: Mount Crosby covers roughly 15.3 square kilometres with a population of about 1,860 people at the 2021 Census, so blocks are big and boundaries are long.

Termite inspections and management in Mount Crosby
Every part of South East Queensland carries subterranean termite risk, and Mount Crosby gives termites two things they like: old timber and undisturbed ground. Inspections here take in the subfloor of high set and older timber homes, the roof void, fences, retaining walls, stumps, decks and any timber left on the ground around a large block. On modern homes we work the slab edge, the wet areas and the landscaping that has been built up over it.
Local fact: The heritage-listed waterworks cottages in Brady Court, Scriven Street and Stumers Road date from the 1890s pumping station village, so original timber and later alterations often sit in the same building.
Why older timber and bush boundaries matter here
Built for heritage timber, open subfloors and a bushland river bend
Mount Crosby is defined by two documented things. First, its housing: 100 per cent separate houses at the 2021 Census, on large semi-rural blocks, including that cluster of state heritage-listed 1890s waterworks cottages around the pumping station and the former Mount Crosby State School and general store on Mount Crosby Road. Second, its edges: the Brisbane River bounds the locality to the south-west, south and south-east, Colleges Crossing sits at the south-eastern corner, and the Mount Crosby Weir and pumping station complex sits on Stumers Road. Vegetated river flats, reserves and low hills like Holts Hill mean most homes here have a natural boundary rather than a neighbour’s fence.
Because of that, our work looks different in four practical ways:
Local fact: Mount Crosby has no schools inside its boundary. Mount Crosby State School is actually across the boundary in Karana Downs, which is a good reminder that boundaries out here follow the river and the ridges, not the street names.
Honest caveat: We do not put a fixed inspection interval or a fixed treatment plan on a page. It depends on the construction, the timber, the moisture and what we find on the day, so it is assessed on site and set out in the written report.
THE PRACTICAL SIDE
Working around Mount Crosby
Long driveways, big blocks and older buildings shape how the job runs here, so a bit of planning up front saves time on the day.
Local fact: Mount Crosby Road is the spine of the locality and also forms part of its south-eastern boundary, so an address that feels like Mount Crosby can sit in a neighbouring locality. We confirm the address before we quote.

COMMON MOUNT CROSBY PESTS WE TREAT

Ants
Coastal brown and black house ants track along slab edges, driveway joints and paths, then find the kitchen. We treat the trails and the nesting areas outside, not just the ants you can see indoors.

Cockroaches
German cockroaches ride in with cartons and groceries and settle in warm kitchen voids, while larger species come in from drains, garden beds and bin areas after dark. Treatment targets harbourage, not open surfaces.

Rats & Mice
Rats and mice move in from drainage lines, dense vegetation and commercial bin areas, then use roof spaces and wall cavities. Older brick homes that have settled often have a gap at the eaves or roller door big enough to matter.

Spiders
Webbing spiders take over eaves, patios and pergolas on low set brick homes, and ground dwellers favour retaining walls, rockeries and mulched beds. We treat exteriors and clear webbing so it is obvious what has been done.

Silverfish
Treatment for silverfish activity in cupboards, storage spaces and other protected areas.

Fleas and other household pests
Treatment options for a wide variety of crawling, scurrying and flying pests.

TERMITE INSPECTIONS MOUNT CROSBY
A well-kept old cottage is not a termite-proof cottage.
Termite inspections are the single most useful thing a Mount Crosby owner can book, and that is true for both building stocks here: the 1890s waterworks cottages and later homes on the big blocks. Our residential inspections currently incorporate traditional sounding, thermal imaging, moisture testing and a full written report, so enclosed and lined timber can be assessed without pulling a house apart.
We inspect the interior, the roof void, the subfloor where there is one, and the exterior including fences, stumps, decks, retaining walls and timber stored on the ground. You get a report that says what we found, what conditions on the property are working against you, and what we recommend next.
MOUNT CROSBY TERMITE TREATMENTS
If termites are found, the plan is matched to the building and the block, not sold off a shelf.
If you find live termites: do not spray them and do not disturb the workings. Disturbing a nest can push activity elsewhere in the building and makes treatment harder. Cover it back up, leave it alone, and call us on 1300 356 691.

OUTDOOR LIVING IN MOUNT CROSBY
Life out here happens outside: reserves and parks are scattered right through the locality, including Platypus Park, Banksia Drive Reserve, Stumers Road Reserve, Scriven Street Reserve, Swensons Road Nature Reserve, Bullock Dray Road Park and Malcolm Mcdougall Park, and Tyamolum Scout Park on Bunya Street brings camping groups in as well. All of that green space is good for the neighbourhood and good for nuisance pests.
Mosquitoes near damp low ground, flies around outdoor kitchens, ants through paving and spiders webbing up verandahs and patios are the usual complaints. We treat the outdoor living zone as part of a general service so the patio, the deck and the pool surrounds are usable again.
RODENT CONTROL MOUNT CROSBY
Semi-rural blocks with sheds, water tanks, feed and vegetated boundaries are ideal rodent territory, and the cooler months push them indoors. Signs worth acting on:
We look at how they are getting in and where they are feeding, treat accordingly, and tell you what to change so it is not an annual event.

MOUNT CROSBY PEST CONTROL FAQS
Questions from Mount Crosby homeowners
My Cottage Is Heritage Listed. Can You Still Inspect And Treat It?
Yes. We inspect heritage places the same careful way we inspect any older timber home, with sounding, thermal imaging and moisture testing so we are not relying on invasive checks. Tell us it is a heritage place when you book, because any works on a registered place can carry its own approval requirements and we would rather plan for that up front.
