YOUR LOCAL KEDRON PEST CONTROL TEAM

One suburb, four or five different kinds of house

Kedron sits on Brisbane’s northside, strung along Gympie Road and along the brook that gives it its name. At the 2021 census it had 9,907 residents with a median age of 35 and a median weekly household income of $2,113. Kedron Brook was named by German missionaries who settled in the area in 1838, and the suburb name was officially recognised in 1901.

What makes Kedron unusual is not one dominant housing type, it is the absence of one. A single street here can carry a pre-war timber cottage, a post-war lowset, a 1970s brick veneer, a 1990s infill house and a recent townhouse development, sometimes side by side. Add the Gympie Road commercial spine, the schools and Padua College, and the brook corridor along the southern edge, and you have a suburb where no two jobs on the same street are quite the same.

That is the practical point of this page. In Kedron, the advice that worked for the neighbour may be wrong for you, because your house is not built like theirs.

A man wearing a mask and gloves cleans a commercial dishwasher in an industrial kitchen next to a stainless steel sink.

MYTH BUSTER

“Our neighbour got a barrier put in, so we should get the same thing”

Possibly. But the correct termite treatment depends on how your house meets the ground, and in Kedron that varies house by house.

Four common Kedron construction types, four different approaches:

  • Pre-war timber on stumps. Usually no installed protection at all, often extended or built in underneath. The work is inspection access, moisture control and soil to timber contact, and treatment usually starts with finding where the colony is feeding.
  • Post-war lowset on stumps with ant caps. Ant caps do not stop termites, they force them into view. So the value is in whether they are visible and intact, which is exactly what render, paint, garden beds and enclosing walls destroy.
  • 1970s and 1980s brick veneer on slab. People assume brick means safe. The frame is still timber, and the risk moves to the slab edge, weep holes and where soil, paths or garden beds have been built up against the perimeter.
  • Recent builds and townhouses. These have an installed termite management system, and there should be a durable notice recording it. Chemical systems have a finite life, and physical systems can be bridged by later landscaping.

A chemical soil barrier is right for some of those and pointless for others. A baiting system suits situations where a barrier cannot be completed properly. And on a slab home with soil built up over the slab edge, the first fix is landscaping, not chemistry.

So when a neighbour tells you what they had done, treat it as useful local intelligence about termite pressure in the street, not as a prescription for your house. The inspection comes first, always, and any operator who quotes a treatment without inspecting is guessing with your money.

WHAT WE TREAT IN KEDRON

Termites, rodents, general pests, mosquitoes and commercial

Full detail for each service lives on our site wide service pages, linked under each card.

Termite inspections in Kedron

Because the housing is mixed, our inspection here starts by working out what we are actually looking at: construction type, whether protection was ever installed, what has been added since, and how the ground sits against the structure.

Inspections currently incorporate traditional sounding, thermal imaging and moisture testing, and cover the structure, accessible subfloor, roof void, perimeter, fences, sheds, retaining walls and trees, with a written report that names anything we could not access.

Termite treatment and protection in Kedron

Treatment is matched to the construction, not to a product we happen to prefer. We will walk you through barriers, baiting systems and what each one requires of you afterwards, and we will say plainly when the real fix is drainage or landscaping rather than a chemical.

Rodent control in Kedron

The Gympie Road strip, the schools, the brook corridor and the older housing stock all contribute. We inspect the envelope first: roof line and eaves, vents, gable ends, service penetrations, weep holes and subfloor access, then yard harbourage and food sources including compost, chook pens and fruit trees.

Baits go into locked, tamper resistant stations, positioned along the structure with documented placements. On commercial sites we zone the monitoring so entry points can be identified.

Ants, spiders, cockroaches and general pests in Kedron

Ants and spiders are the routine work, nesting under paths, driveways, patios and retaining walls, and in the older masonry and timber around the suburb. In detached homes, cockroaches harbour in subfloors, sheds, roof voids and drains and come in from outside, which is a different job to the German cockroach work in unit blocks.

Mosquito management in Kedron

Kedron Brook and its parkland run along the southern side of the suburb, and mosquito pressure rises after rain. Our part of the job is on your property: finding and removing standing water in gutters, saucers, buckets, tarps and unscreened tank inlets, and treating the shaded vegetation and structure where adults rest during the day.

Commercial programs in Kedron

Gympie Road carries food businesses, retail, medical suites, offices and childcare, along with schools nearby. We run scheduled programs with zoned monitoring, service records, trend reporting and written corrective actions, and we are HACCP certified through Compass Assurance and CM3 certified. Brisbane’s licensed food businesses are audited by Council for an Eat Safe star rating that pest management forms part of.

WHAT DRIVES PEST PRESSURE HERE

Built for a suburb of mixed housing eras

Housing from many eras, street by street. Pre-war timber, post-war lowset, brick veneer on slab, infill housing and new townhouses, each with different termite risk.
A busy arterial spine. Gympie Road brings food businesses, waste and constant activity through the middle of the suburb.
The brook corridor. Kedron Brook and its parkland add mosquito pressure after rain and give rodents a vegetated route.
Ongoing infill. Knockdown rebuilds and townhouse developments displace established rodent populations into neighbouring homes while work is underway.
Mature gardens. Decades of added paths, beds, retaining walls and trees, which is where concealed soil to timber contact hides.
Schools and institutions nearby. Large sites with kitchens, grounds and waste handling, which shift local rodent pressure.

Local fact: Kedron Brook was named by German missionaries who settled in the area in 1838, and the suburb’s name was formally recognised in 1901, decades before most of its current housing existed.

Honest caveat: We will not quote a termite treatment for a Kedron house sight unseen. With this much construction variation, a phone quote would be a guess, and you would be paying for the guess.

THE PRACTICAL SIDE

Working around Kedron

Tell us the era and construction type of your home when you book, and whether it has been extended, reclad or built in underneath. It changes what we bring.
If your home has a termite management system, look in the meter box for the durable notice before we arrive. It records the system and its install and re-treatment dates.
Unlock subfloor and roof access, and clear a path around the perimeter.
Point out retaining walls, sleepers, decks, sheds and garden edging so they are included in the termite inspection.
For the Gympie Road businesses we work around trade hours and note waste collection times in the program.
Products are applied by trained technicians per label and Queensland Health requirements. Tell us about children, pets, fish tanks and beehives when you book.

Local fact worth knowing: In Queensland, pest management technicians must be licensed by Queensland Health, and businesses doing termite work also need the right QBCC licensing ([Queensland Health, pest management licensing](https://www.health.qld.gov.au/system-governance/licences/medicines-poisons/pest-management/forms-templates-fees)). Ours are on every page of this site: QBCC 15385227 and Queensland Health PMTO 11140. You are entitled to ask any operator for theirs, and it is worth doing.

Kedron sits in our Brisbane north service area, and we cover the surrounding suburbs on the same run: Stafford, Stafford Heights, Gordon Park, Wooloowin, Lutwyche, Chermside, Grange and Wavell Heights. The mixed housing pattern and the brook corridor carry across those suburbs, so the same approach applies. If you own more than one property nearby, we can look at them on the one visit.

KEDRON PEST CONTROL FAQS

Questions from Kedron residents and businesses

  • Our House Is Brick. Do We Still Need Termite Inspections?

Yes. Brick veneer homes have a timber frame behind the brickwork, so the risk does not disappear, it moves. On slab homes the attention goes to the slab edge, weep holes and anywhere soil, paths or garden beds have been built up against the perimeter, which is extremely common on older Kedron blocks.
